Web Design

Finch's Brasserie Website

I created this website as a freelance project for the restaurant. It took numerous iterations and usability upgrades before going live. This site was coded entirely by hand, with the exception of the scripting. Further, I created the layout, images, and overall design. The client wanted a specific look for the website, and she was thrilled with the final outcome. You may see her recommendation here from my LinkedIn profile. You must be a LinkedIn member to view the recommendation. If you are not a LinkedIn member, I will happily send you her recommendation in an email.

Turnbull Farms Perl / CGI Website
Turnbull Farms Project Documentation

This website was created entirely by hand as a group project for a web programming class. The site allows for customers to place orders through various forms and pages, creating dynamic content. The whole order process is comprised of CGI scripts interacting with HTML forms and a CSS stylesheet. The project was created over the course of the Fall semester of 2008.

RICe (Restaurant Inventory Control electronic) Microsoft Access Database
RICe (Restaurant Inventory Control electronic) Database Specification (.doc)

The main function of this database was to help our client (a restaurant owner) with their inventory control needs for their restaurant. The main functions within inventory control that were addressed: Making new inventory, comparing past inventories, viewing past inventories, and reporting functionalities. More specifically, specific item information can be entered into the database, and tracked automatically. The inventory is broken down into several attributes, each providing pertinent information about the item. We were able to help the client by providing queries and implementing VBA code to present data in a simplified manner to assist in the client's inventory management decision making process.

The specification gives detailed information about the scope of the project and other important deliverables.

XML Music Library

I created this XML Music Library for an XML workshop over the summer of 2008. I had no prior experience in XML, but ended up putting this XML project together by hand for the course final. It really helped me learn about XML and its intricacies. I learned how to create DTD's, schemas, and other important XML documents.

Iterative User-Centered Evaluation and Design of Existing Web Based Systems

.doc format
By Hall Peter, Feda Sam, Sissler Laura

Abstract

The aim of the project was to evaluate and redesign the current web site for the Indiana University Office of Academic Support and Diversity (OASD) based upon iterative user-centered principles. Initially, an analysis of the current OASD was conducted based upon user feedback, team discussion, and comparison to a similar web site. Then, initial low-fidelity prototypes were constructed based upon user requirements and expectations that were determined in the initial analysis. Users were involved in every step of the design process, and the team then incorporated this feedback into each new prototype. After a number of low-fidelity prototypes were constructed, the team transitioned to high-fidelity prototypes to add functionality and convey a better aesthetic layout to users. Analysis of team discourse and user feedback led to a heuristic evaluation, which proved that our final prototype was a solid foundation in which to create a new web site for the OASD. The paper includes discussion of important lessons learned and outlines an implementation plan.

Bloomington Continuing Studies (BCS) Registration System Analysis and Redesign Project

.doc format
By Centanni Kristin, Chang Mingxian, Chaora Anesu, Hall Peter, Tawfik Andrew

Summary

This project was complete systems analysis and evaluation of the current BCS system, followed by recommendations for future use. A prototype was also built to incorporate these suggestions. Numerous user-centered design principles were implemented into the team's final report to the BCS office.

John Beggs Dossier Poster

This poster shows the scholarly impact and promise of Indiana University biophysicist John Beggs. He is scheduled to go up for tenure in 2009. I have created this poster as a part of my Graduate Assistantship, showing his publications and their current influence based on various bibliometric measures. This poster also stresses the scholar's strengths, highlighting the multidisciplinary nature of his work and showing that his research bridges the fields of physics with neuroscience and biophysics. This is done visually with Adobe Photoshop. Finally, the poster acknowledges the scholar's participation in new forms of scholarly communication, including his curatorship of "neuronal avalanches" in the new, wiki-based, collaborative open access Scholarpedia.

The Beggs dossier visualization will be presented at the ACRL (Association of College and Research Libraries) 14th National Conference in Seattle, WA, March 12-15 2009, at the poster session under the title "Depicting Faculty Impact: Visualizing Contributions to Research with Dossier Inserts". Bob Noel, Head Swain Librarian, will speak on my behalf.

Flash Presentation

This presentation was created in Adobe Flash, as a project for my Graduate Assistantship. The purpose of the presentation was to show new library users how to carry out a cited reference search using the Web of Knowledge.

Arsenal Graphic

This was made with Abode Photoshop, taking each individual image and applying various techniques to blend together. For reference, Arsenal is a soccer team located in London, England and is my favorite soccer team in the world.

I would also like to note that I created all the images and design that you see on this website.
